You Talkin to Me rallied from about 15 lengths off the lead at the midway point to win the $102,250 Iowa Breeders’ Derby by 4 1/4-lengths Saturday evening at Prairie Meadows WATCH RACE.

The 3-year-old son of Tapiture was making his stakes debut and is now 2-2-4 in nine starts and has earned $121,336 for owner/breeder Maria Pauly. The chestnut sophomore is one of Tapiture’s 106 winners this year, which is 17 more than any other Third-Crop sire.

After a tardy break from the gate, You Talkin to Me found himself last of nine going around the first turn. Meanwhile, a four-way speed duel left the field very strung out for the backstretch run. You Talkin to Me began to cut into his double-digit deficit entering the final turn and was only four lengths from the front entering the final quarter-mile. He came four-wide into the stretch and rolled by the leaders to win going away.

Among Tapiture’s 11 stakes horses this year are Group 2 winner Alway’s Comerio, the stakes winners Flashfordani and Vertical Threat, and Pegasus World Cup (G1) runner-up Jesus’ Team.
