Global Unrest flew down the midde of the Keeneland turf course, coming from the back of the pack to win the one-mile maiden special weight race by a length and earn the 2-year-old Flameaway filly a TDN ‘Rising Star’ banner.
The chestnut filly is the first Rising Star for her sire, who is in the top six on this year’s Fourth-Crop sire list with eight stakes horses, and more than $5.2 million in progeny earnings.
Global Unrest was far-back early, but seemingly in hand under Flavien Prat, she continued to sit in eighth down the backstretch. Prat unleashed her with about three furlongs to run and she quickly began to advance. Forced some seven-wide in the stretch, Global Unrest nevertheless passed horses with ease down the lane and storming to the front with a furlong to go. She comfortably held off Free Verse for the win.
Global Unrest is owned Klaravich Stables, Inc., who purchased her for $270,000 at this year’s OBS March sale. Bred in Kentucky by Michael Lee, Global Unrest is out of Beautiful Memories, who is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Further Ado.
