Flameaway’s brilliant female sprinter Reagan’s Flame closed with a flourish to win the $400,000 Presque Isle Masters S. (G2) Sept. 18, giving the 5-year-old her third career graded stakes victory, all of them coming this year.
Winner of the Seaway S. (G3) in previous outing, Reagan’s Flame was the even-money favorite in Friday’s 6 ½-furlong contest. She stalked the pacesetters for much of the race while between horses. After turning for home, jockey Edgard Zayas moved to the outside for clear running, and Reagan’s Flame took off, rolling by the frontrunners under a hand ride to win by nearly a length.
Reagan’s Flame has won four of six starts this year, all coming on the synthetic surface, beginning with a Gulfstream Park overnight handicap and then the Whimsical S. (G3) in early May. Her overall record stands at 9-5-2 in 24 starts, with earnings of $776,963 for owners St. Elias Stable, BAG Racing Stables LLC, Turf Express Racing, Inc. and Watkins Diamond Stables LLC.
Reagan’s Flame was bred in Kentucky by Jason Hall, Herschel Martindale & Stephen Mott and is out of a sister to two-time graded winner Bright Thought.
