Flameaway’s Baltic Fire gets first stakes win at Del Mar

Top-five Fourth-Crop sire Flameaway got his latest stakes winner July 25 at Del Mar when Baltic Fire won a hard-fought battle in the $100,000 Osunitas S.

Among Flameaway’s eight stakes horses this year are Grade 1 winner Dark Saffron and Grade 3 winner Reagan’s Flame.

In Saturday’s Osunitas Baltic Fire was making her first stakes start since being beaten just three lengths in Megahertz S. (G3) in January. She settled into fifth as the field entered the first turn as she made her way into the two-path after breaking from post 8. She cut her deficit down to two lengths after a half-mile, then steadily advanced around the final bend to emerge with the lead turning for home.

With late bids from both Public Assembly and May Day Ready, Baltic Fire had to dig in gamely to hold onto the top spot, officially winning by a neck in 1:34.01 for the mile on the firm turf.

Five-year-old Baltic Fire is owned by BAG Racing Stables LLC and WSS Racing LLC and is 5-1-3 in 19 starts and has earned $278,480. She was bred in Kentucky by Rose Hill Farm.
