Onyx finished with an incredible flourish to win the $100,000 Sharp Susan S. over the Gulfstream Park turf course on Aug. 31, the first stakes start and win for the 2-year-old Dialed In filly.
Onyx is Dialed In’s fifth stakes winner and 14th stakes horses of 2019, which is second-most among all Fourth-Crop sires. He also added two new stakes horses on Saturday with Na Pali Spirit and Dial Operator both finishing second in their stakes outings.
Onyx staged her dramatic finish after sitting well off the pace for the first six furlongs. Still five lengths back in mid-stretch, she dove down to the inside and flew past Fujairah in the final strides to win by three-quarters of a length.
Owned by her breeder Arindel, Onyx has won both her starts since switching to the turf two starts back. She has now earned $114,420. Onyx is the latest foal out of Youbetshecan, who is best known as a half-sister to Best Pal, who nine graded stakes and over $4.6 million.
