T and E Racing’s Possiblemente, a son of Tale of Ekati, secured his second graded stakes victory this year, taking the $1.75 million Turf Sprint (G2) at Kentucky Downs on Saturday, Sept. 5. In winning the six-furlong turf sprint, Possiblemente earned an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) on Oct. 31 at Keeneland.
Ridden by Jose Ortiz, Possiblemente tracked from second early behind pacesetter Mondogetsbuckets who recorded a :22 opening quarter, followed by a :43.83 half mile. Possiblemente engaged for command as the pair entered the final bend and shook free late approaching the final sixteenth to prevail by a widening 1 ¼ lengths in the final time of 1:09.28.
Possiblemente joined the barn of trainer Joe Sharp at the beginning of the year, following a predominantly two-turn campaign in Canada. Sharp noted that cutting him back in distance has made a big difference.
“He’s one of those horses who would always be keen on the lead, and we decided to cut him back in distance and it’s just made all the difference for him,” Sharp said. “We liked him a lot. We opted to skip the [Grade 2] Troy [on Aug. 9 at Saratoga] after the Harvey Pack because he had run every 4-5 weeks. I told the owners I wanted to be able to come into this race fresh, and we did it. Love it when a plan comes together.”
Prior to the Turf Sprint score, Possiblemente won the Jacques Cartier Stakes (G3) at Woodbine in May, traveling six furlongs over the all-weather surface. Bred in Kentucky by Charles Fipke and out of the stakes-winning Not Bourbon mare Internal Bourbon, Possiblemenete banked $1,018,675 in victory, boosting his lifetime earnings to $1,525,023. His lifetime record stands at 34-11-8-4.
