Tapiture’s Norma Jean B. earns first stakes win

Tapiture, last year’s leading Third-Crop Sire of winners, got his fourth stakes horse this month when Norma Jean B. won the Feb. 11 Glendale S. at Turf Paradise (WATCH RACE).

The newly-turned 5-year-old ran second in the Swingtime S. at Santa Anita in October in what was her first lifetime stakes start. Since transferring from Kentucky circuit last summer, Norma Jean B. has four wins and two seconds in six starts.

The chestnut mare came from well off the pace to capture Friday’s 1 1/16-mile turf event. Sitting in eighth with a half-mile to run, Norma Jean B. was wide into the final bend, picking off horses as she closed the gap. She came four-wide into the stretch and ran past Quiet Secretary inside the furlong grounds to win going away by 1 1/4-lengths.

The winner is owned by Thelma and Louise Stable LLC and was bred in Kentucky by Nancy Vanier and Cartwright Thoroughbreds V, LLC.

Tapiture, who stands for $10,000 S&N, had the runner-up in both the Toboggan S. (G3) and Jimmy Winkfield S. at Aqueduct this past weekend, and Curlin S. runner-up at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai on Friday.
