Tapiture’s Big Luke much the best in first stakes victory

Big Luke made an emphatic statement in his first stakes win June 3 at Prairie Meadows, rolling to a nearly eight-length win in the $75,000 Grays Lake S.

The 3-year-old, who was stakes-placed at two, was a no-doubt-about-it winner on Saturday. After an early tussle for the lead, he asserted himself with a quarter-mile to run and powered through the stretch for an official tally of 7 ¾-lengths in 1:09.70 for the six furlongs on a fast track.

Owned by his breeder Big Pine, LLC, Big Luke is 3-1-1 in five starts and has earned $120,876.

Big Luke is one of Tapiture’s 12 stakes horses to date in 2023. Annually one of the leading sires of winners, Tapiture has 85 to date, among the top 10 for all North American sires.
