Avalina couldn’t have been more impressive in her stakes debut on May 20 at Parx, rolling to an 8 1/4-length victory in the $75,000 Parx Spring Oaks. The 3-year-old Tale of Ekati filly had won an Apr. 26 Belmont Park allowance by a similar margin to set up her first black type win.
Owned by John O’Hara, Avalina is just a head away from being perfect in four starts, which includes a 13-length blowout maiden win in her Feb. 21 debut at Aqueduct. After Monday’s win, she has earned $111,650.
In hand the entire way in the 1 mile and 70 yard Oaks, Avalina stalked in second before taking over entering the final turn and drew off with complete authority.
Avalina was bred by Charles Fipke, who also bred and raced Tale of Ekati. Though she has yet to contest a race on the grass in her brief career, Avalina’s dam comes from the immediate family of Grade 1 turf winners Sky Classic (a four-time champion in Canada) and Always a Classic.
