Reagan’s Flame came from last with a qurater-mile to run to capture the Whimsical S. (G3) by two lengths on May 2nd at Woodbine to give the 5-year-old Flameaway mare her first graded stakes win.
Reagan’s Flame broke alertly before settling several lengths off the pace as Ms. Bucchero zipped through a quarter in :21.99. Last of six around the turn, Reagan’s Flame was forced to go four-wide as she turned for home. With clear sailing in front of her, Reagan’s Flame stormed down the center of the track and took over inside the final furlong and drew clear late to stop the clock in 1:10.11 for the six furlongs.
“Our horse popped out really well, I knew a couple horses would go,” said winning rider Sahin Civaci. “I wanted to back right behind them. There was very little gap on my inside but someone managed to squeeze in and I was like, ‘Oh God.’ I managed to circle around. Post parade she seemed sharp so I had confidence. I just wanted the speed to go and she did her thing down the lane.”
The winner is owned by BAG Racing Stables LLC, Turf Express, Inc. and Watkins Diamond Stables LLC and was bred in Kentucky by Jason Hall, Herschel Martindale & Stephen Mott. The bay’s record now stands at 7-5-1 in 20 starts, with earnings of $502,351.
Pedigree Notes from the TDN:
