Flameaway colt flies late to win the English Channel S.

Freedom Principle unleashed a huge rally in the stretch of the Gulfstream Park turf course to get up by a neck in the $100,000 English Channel S. May 4 at the south Florida track.

A 3-year-old son of Flameaway, Freedom Principle won the Armed Forces S. at Gulfstream to close out his 2-year-old campaign and is now 3-2-0 in seven starts. Freedom Principle is one of eight stakes horses in 2024 for Flameaway, who is currently sixth on the Second-Crop sire list.

Freedom Principle had just two horses beat for the first five furlongs of the one-mile English Channel. When he commenced his rally midway on the final bend, he had no option but to circle widest of all. Despite covering the extra ground, he made his way to third at the top of the lane, then with a remarkable effort, ran down the leaders to snatch victory in the final strides.

The final time on the firm turf was a very good 1:32.92.

Freedom Principle is owned by Echo Papa Racing Corp. and was bred in Kentucky by Lantern Hill Farm.
