Vacherie Girl lived up to her billing with a solid score in Saturday's $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Lassie S. at Fair Grounds, winning the six-furlong contest for 2-year-old fillies by 1 1/4-lengths.

The win made her Tapiture's second stakes winner and his fifth overall stakes horse in his first crop. With 25 individual winners, Tapiture is tied atop the Freshman sire list and is in the top five by progeny earnings with over $1.3 million.

Vacherie Girl, who won her Nov. 28 debut very impressively by 6 1/2-lengths over the same track, was well-handled throughout by Florent Geroux on Saturday. Sitting a few lengths from the front, she made a four-wide move into the long stretch, then surged past Our Lost Love in mid-stretch to finish up in 1:12.01 on a fast track.

The winner is owned by Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt and was bred by Georgia Farms, Inc.

Tapiture was also represented by a new winner Saturday when the colt Tapping the Glass won a seven-furlong maiden special weight race at Laurel Park. Owned by Pocket 3's Racing and bred by Gil Masters, the chestnut juvenile is the first foal out of Mini Ashley, who is a half-sister to this year's Pennsylvania Derby (G1) winner Math Wizard and Grade 2 winner Ginny's Grey.
