For the second year in a row Tapiture finished the season as the leading sire of his generation by both winners and wins.
In 2019, Tapiture led the First-Crop list and repeated at the top in 2020, compiling 87 winners of 119 races over the past 12 months.
His winners’ total of 87 was most impressive in light of the fact that no other Second-Crop sire had more than 71 for the year, placing him ahead of the likes of American Pharoah, Constitution and Wicked Strong. Tapiture’s offspring won 119 races last year, making him the only Second-Crop sire with at least 100 winners.
Tapiture accounted for six stakes winners and 16 stakes horses last year, led by Monmouth Oaks (G3) winner Hopeful Growth, while both Vacherie Girl and Vertical Threat were two-time black type winners. His 3-year-old colt Jesus’ Team placed in both the Preakness S. (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1).
Once again in high demand, Tapiture bred 186 mares in 2020, his largest book to date. His 2021 fee is $10,000 stands and nurses.
