Modernist filly flies through the stretch in debut MdSpWt win

Trendsetter is likely headed to stakes company following his eye-catching maiden special weight win on July 10 at Colonial Downs [WATCH RACE].

The 2-year-old Modernist colt, who is the third winner for his First-Crop sire, made up some eight lengths in the stretch to win by 1 ¼-lengths. With a half-dozen foes intent on getting the lead, Trendsetter settled well off the early pace. He was in the four path around the turn and still had most of the field in front of him turning for home. With a devastating turn of foot, Trendsetter flew past the field to win going away.

Trendsetter is owned by Davant Latham’s Midway Racing LLC and sold for $130,000 at the 2025 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale in April. The bay juvenile was bred in Kentucky by Circle B Family Farm.

Modernist, whose first 2-year-old have sold for up to $310,000, stood the 2025 season at Darby Dan Farm for $5,000 S&N.
