Three new winners put Tapiture atop First-Crop Sire list

Tapiture added three more maiden winners this week to move him to the top of the First-Crop Sire list with 21, ahead of American Pharoah, Constitution and Wicked Strong.

Distilled Spirit was the latest winner for his sire when he scored a front-running victory going six furlongs on Nov. 9 at Laurel Park. Owned and bred by Whiskey Hollow Thoroughbreds LLC, the chestnut juvenile is the first foal out of Yabuquiva, whose family includes the likes of graded stakes winners Golden Missile, Santa Catalina and Flexibility.

Two days earlier at Churchill Downs, the filly Black Kat Taps won very impressively, drawing off to a 7 1/4-length victory at 6 1/2-furlongs. Black Kat Taps was bred by Allen Poindexter and Lauren Javernick, DVM and is owned by Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch.
