Suave is a track record-breaking multiple graded stakes winner and grade one performer. By A.P. Indy, he is out of Urbane, a multiple grade one winner from the immediate family of Lyphard.

 

Suave is by A.P. Indy out a Dixieland Band line mare, and both are excellent with Mr. Prospector, a strain which absent from the pedigree of Mr. Prospector. There are already more than 50 stakes winners by A.P. Indy and his sons out of Mr. Prospector line mares. The successful sources of Mr. Prospector here include Fappiano (including the through his sons Quiet American, Unbridled, Roy and Rubiano), Seeking the Gold, Forty Niner, Machiavellian, Afleet, Silver Ghost, Two Punch, Woodman and Distinctive Pro. A.P. Indy has also sired four stakes winners, two of them grade one, out of mares by Alydar, a Raise a Native line sire bred on a similar cross to Mr. Prospector.

 

Suave is an example of the successful cross of A.P. Indy over Northern Dancer line mares, and like many stallions with Northern Dancer line dams should do well when bred back to Northern Dancer line mares.  The A.P. Indy/Northern Dancer cross has produced at least 50 stakes winners, including Rags to Riches, Stevie Wonderboy and Sky Mesa. Branches of the Northern Dancer line which have worked well with A.P. Indy include Nijinsky II, Danzig, Deputy Minister, Lyphard (who would give inbreeding to the family of Suave), Nureyev, El Gran Senor and Storm Bird and his son Storm Cat. Horses carrying a Northern Dancer/Ribot cross (particularly through His Majesty and Graustark are especially worth looking for). A.P. Indy has also sired a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Clever Trick, who is by Northern Dancer's fellow Nearctic son, Icecapade.

 

A.P. Indy line stallions are beginning to work well over Hail to Reason through Roberto, and that strain is particularly good with Dixieland Band, who is in the broodmare sire line of Suave. A. P. Indy has also sired stakes winners out of mares descending from Hail to Reason through Cure the Blues, and through Turn-to – the sire of Hail to Reason – via Cox’s Ridge.
