Wellabled rolls by 7 in Turfway Park's Forego S.

Wellabled, a 4-year-old Shackleford colt, kicked off his 2018 campaign with a resounding seven-length victory in the $50,000 Forego S. Feb. 19 at Turfway Park. 

Wellabled, who won the Arlington-Washington Futurity (G3) and Fitz Dixon Jr. Juvenile S. as a 2-year-old, is now 5-1-0 in nine starts, with earnings of $214,856 for his owner Carolyn Wilson.

Sent off as the 6-5 favorite, Wellabled ran to his odds as he took the lead soon after the start and never relinquished the top spot, drawing off powerfully in the final furlong to get the 6 1/2-furlong distance in a swift 1:16.82.

Wellabled was a $340,000 purchase by Wilson at the 2016 OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in training. She is the first foal out of Expressive Diva, who is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Ringsakiddy.

Wellabled is part of Shackleford's excellent first crop of runners. The Darby Dan stallion finished 2017 ranked third on the Second-Crop Sire list, with his offspring earning in excess of $4.1 million, with 68 individual winners capturing prestigious events such as the Rebel S. (G2) and Schuylerville S. (G3). Shackleford is standing this year at Darby Dan for a fee of $20,000 live foal stands and nurses.
