Tale of Ekati will have his first starter in the Breeders' Cup on Saturday when Verve's Tale breaks from the gate in the $3 million Distaff (G1) at Churchill Downs.

Trained by Barclay Tagg for owner/breeder Charles Fipke, Verve's Tale is a graded stakes winner who most recently finished third in the Beldame Inv. (G1) Oct. 6 at Belmont Park. The 5-year-old mare has competed at the highest level most of her career, finishing in the top three 17 of 22 times.

Saturday's ultra-tough field features the past two Kentucky Oaks (G1) winners as part of the 11-horse field. Brian Hernandez, Jr. will be aboard Verve's Tale for the first time, in post position six for the 1 1/8-mile affair.

The Distaff is race 9, with a scheduled post of 4:16 p.m. ET.
