Verve’s Tale got her second career stakes win Sunday at Saratoga when the 4-year-old Tale of Ekati filly prevailed by a nose in a stretch-long duel with Blue Prize (ARG) in the $100,000 Summer Colony S.

Winner of the Comely S. (G3) last November, Verve’s Tale has now won $420,500 for her owner/breeder Charles Fipke, who also campaigned Tale of Ekati.

Verve’s Tale need all of the Saratoga stretch to secure the win. Stalking in third early, she engaged Blue Prize with a quarter-mile to run, and those two battled the rest of the way, with Verve’s Tale winning by a nose in 1:50.53 for the 1 1/8-miles on the fast main track.

Verve’s Tale is a full sister to Preakness S. (G1)-placed Tale of Verve and is one of eight stakes horses this year by Tale of Ekati. His leading runner, Haskell Inv. (G1) winner Girvin, is scheduled to make his next start in next weekend’s Travers (G1) at Saratoga.
