Zig-zagging through traffic inside, outside, and past a wall of horses, Darby Dan homebred Winter Memories was a game and creditable runner-up in the $1,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G2) on Nov. 5.

Making her first start outside New York, the daughter of Darby Dan’s blue hen Memories of Silver entered the Churchill Downs starting gate undefeated and untested, having won both her career starts at 1 1/16 miles. The gray filly by Champion Sire El Prado was coming off a 5 ¼-length victory in the Miss Grillo (G3), run over yielding turf at Belmont.

Racing for Phillips Racing Partnership, Winter Memories has compiled a record of 3-2-1-0 with earnings of $300,600 under the care of longtime Darby Dan conditioner Jimmy Toner. She has been given the rest of 2010 off and will resume for a 3-year-old campaign in early 2011.
