Freshman sire Tale of Ekati notched his sixth winner on Saturday when Charles Fipke’s homebred filly Morning Tale scored by 4 ½-lengths in a Suffolk Downs maiden special weight affair.
With six winners from just 11 starters, Tale of Ekati has one of the highest percentages of winners from starters for any sire in the top 20. His six winners ranks fourth in the category on the First-Crop sire list of 2014.
Following a duel that lasted the better part of the five furlongs, Morning Tale drew clear in the final eighth mile to win comfortably in :59.42 for the five furlongs.
Morning Tale is out of Fipke’s Morning Cry, who is a half-sister to the top-class filly Balanchine, winner of the Epsom Oaks (G1) and Irish Derby (G1).
