With three maiden special weight winners from his first four starters, Suave has smoothly moved up the ranks among the nation’s freshman sires.

On June 24 his daughter Golden Phoenix dominated a $48,874 maiden special at Churchill, becoming Suave’s second new winner this week, and propelling him into the top ten first crop sires. Golden Phoenix was making just her second start, and drew off to a 6 ½-length victory over 4 ½ furlongs on the main track. Suave is also the sire of debut winner Tiaquepaque (by 7 ¾ on June 18) and B G Suavecito (by 2 ¼ at Lone Star). Suave’s only other starter to date, Slick Vic, ran third in his debut.

Suave now ranks fourth among all Kentucky freshman sires, and has the best ratio of winners to starters of any top 15 first crop sire. Suave has 84 two-year-olds of racing age. He stood the 2010 season at Darby Dan for $12,500.
