Shacklefords Storm triumphs in first turf try

Shacklefords Storm, making his first start of 2017 and on the grass, was a game neck winner of a first-level allowance race on the Sam Houston Race Park lawn on Saturday evening.

The 3-year-old son of Shackleford won for the second time in five lifetime starts for his owner William McCarty. The winner was bred in Kentucky by Taylor Asbury and Franklin Kling Jr. The colt's dam Tourism is a half-sister to Peter Pan S. (G2) winner Sightseeing.

Shackleford's whose first crop are 3-year-olds of 2017, entered Saturday ranked fourth on this year's Second-Crop Sire list and now has eight winners through the first six weeks of the year.
