Shackleford's latest winner comes at Churchill Downs

Laney's strong stretch run carried the 2-year-old Shackleford filly to a 2 3/4-length maiden win Friday at Churchill Downs. 

The Eddie Kenneally-trained chestnut is Shackleford's ninth first-crop winner, which ranks third among all fresman sires.

Laney won the one-mile contest after swarming past the pacesetter Rose of the Nile with about a furlong to run and easily held off the competition for the victory.

Laney is the second foal out of Croon, whose sister Midnight Ballet captured the Sharp Cat S. at Hollywood Park. The winner is owned by Joseph Sutton.
