Shackleford's last year's co-leading Freshman Sire by winners with 20, has started off red-hot in 2017 with the stunning 15-length maiden special weight winner and TDN Rising Star on Jan. 4, then scoring with a trio of runners on Jan. 16.

Laney kicked off the trifecta for her sire on Monday in the first race at Gulfstream Park with a one-length score in a seven furlong optional race at seven furlongs. The win was Laney's second of her career. The chestnut filly is owned by Joe Sutton and was bred in Kentucky by Vincent Colbert.

Second on the winners' docket was Stagecoach Stop, a gaudy 11-length maiden winner at a mile, also at Gulfstream. Bred by Meritage Ventures in Kentucky, the colt is owned by Roy Coffey and Mike Gentry.

Wrapping up the day was another maiden winner in Singleforareason. The bay filly won a 5 1/2-furlong main track affair by a nose in a brave effort. Bred in Florida by Rustlewood Farm, she is owned by a partnership headed by Burns Racing LLC.
