Darby Dan’s freshman sire Shackleford continued building on the momentum of his first crop of 2-year-olds Monday when one of his colts sold for $250,000 during the first session of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale at Timonium.

Selling as Hip 6, the handsome chestnut colt was purchased by Ben McElroy, agent after breezing a co-fastest eighth of a mile in 10 seconds flat the week prior. Bred by William Graham, the colt is out of the Street Cry (Ire) mare Intentional Cry.

Monday’s result adds to a great spring of sales results for the popular first crop of Shackleford. Last month, he was represented by sales of $340,000, $310,000, $280,000, and $190,000 at the annual OBS April sale. In March, his first juveniles sold for $180,000, $160,000, and $110,000 at OBS March, and he also had a $130,000 colt at the Fasig-Tipton Florida sale. From 25 juveniles to sell to date, Shackleford holds a six-figure average that currently stands at $101,300.

More 2-year-olds from Shackleford’s first crop will be offered on day two Tuesday at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic, just outside of Baltimore, Maryland.
