Seeking the Soul takes Ack Ack S. (G3) in preparation for Breeders' Cup

Seeking the Soul added a victory in the the Ack Ack S. (G3) to his stellar resume when son of Perfect Soul won the $100,000 contest on Saturday evening at Churchill Downs (VIDEO).

Winner of last year's Clark H. (G1) over the same surface, Seeking the Soul upped his bankroll to $1,482,542 for his owner/breeder Charles Fipke.

For trainer Dallas Stewart, the victory opened up a couple of options for next month's Breeders' Cup, which also runs at Churchill.

“That was a legit race with a legit final time,” Stewart said. “He ran the mile in (1:35.01) and showed a great effort at a track we know he loves. We have our options open a bit between the Dirt Mile (G1) and the Classic (G1). Mr. Fipke and I will get together to talk things over about where to head.” 

Seeking the Soul, breaking from post five, was never more than a couple lengths off the lead, but was hung three-wide for the entire trip. After a moderate first quarter-mile of :24.03, the pace began to quicken, and by the time the field of six hit the top of the stretch, all six were within two lengths of each other. 

Seeking the Soul, between horses, repelled challengers from both sides and drew clear in the final sixteenth to win by 1 1/4-lengths while getting the final furlong in a shade under 12 seconds.

Seeking the Soul is out of Seeking the Title, winner of the Iowa Oaks (G3), while his third dam is the immortal Hall of Famer Personal Ensign, who herself is the dam of three Grade 1 winners. 

Seeking the Soul is Perfect Soul's all time leading earner, recently surpassing Perfect Shirl, winner of the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1).
