Promises Fulfilled first Grade 1 winner for Shackleford

Leading Third-crop sire Shackleford marked another milestone in his stallion career on Saturday when Promises Fulfilled won the $500,000 H. Allen Jerkens S. (G1) at Saratoga in front-running style.

The 3-year-old colt, who won the Fountain of Youth S. (G2) and Amsterdam S. (G3) this year, is the first Grade 1 winner for Shackleford, who is a top-10 Third-crop sire by black type winners, winners and earnings.

Hustled away from his inside post, Promises Fulfilled seized the top spot after just a few strides. Rolling through fractions of :22.66 and :44.34, Promises Fulfilled repelled the challenges of both Seven Trumpets to his inside and Firenze Fire to his outside as he rolled through the stretch. At the wire, the chestnut colt won by 1 1/4-lengths over Seven Trumpets in 1:21.44 for the seven furlongs on a fast track.

"It's a great day. I'm glad for the horse," owner Robert Baron said of Promises Fulfilled. "After the Woody Stephens, (trainer Dale Romans told me), 'We're going to run in the Amsterdam and this race.' You never think about where you're going to finish, only that you're going to run. It worked out great." 

Promises Fulfilled has earned $770,280 and is now 5-0-2 in nine starts. He was bred in Kentucky by David Jacobs.
