Perfect Soul had multiple winners the weekend of July 17-19 to go along
with the emergence of stakes-placed juvenile Perfect Lou, who was third
in Saturday’s $50,000 Minstrel S. – the first of three Breeders’ Cup
prep stakes for 2-year-olds on the turf this summer at Louisiana Downs.
Perfect Lou, who broke his maiden at first asking in May at Lone Star
Park, made a successful switch to the grass in the Minstrel, rallying
late after breaking poorly in the five-furlong dash. The performance
should set him up well for the next stakes in the series – the one-mile
$50,000 Donnie Wilhite Memorial S. August 15. The final leg of the
series is the one-mile $100,000 Happy Ticket Breeders’ Cup S. Sept. 19,
which serves as a “Win and You’re In” automatic berth to the $1 million
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita.
Perfect Shower and Borgatello became Perfect Soul’s latest maiden
winners on July 17 & 18, respectively. Both racing in Canada,
Perfect Shower took to the Polytrack at Woodbine to win by a decisive 4
½ lengths, while Borgatello made a professional debut at Hastings Park,
rallying from the back of the pack to win at first asking.
