Soul of Nataka became the latest stakes winner for her sire Perfect Soul when she prevailed after a determined stretch run in the $151,000 Catotene S. on Oct. 4th at Woodbine.
The bay filly broke her maiden in her previous start and took Sunday’s class hike in stride, rallying from last to roll past seven stakes rivals to get her nose in front on the line. The final time for the 1 1/8-mile event was 1:52.42 over a course listed as yielding.
“She's full of grit,” said trainer Roger Attfield. “It was a very thrilling finish. She's a filly that has really come around.”
Attfield conditions Soul of Nataka for her breeder and owner Charles Fipke, who bred the filly from the multiple stakes-producing With Approval mare Nataka. She owns a record of 2-2-0 from nine starts with earnings of $155,065.
Earlier in the Woodbine meet, Fipke and Attfield campaigned Perfect Shower, a colt from the first crop of Perfect Soul, to a win in the $503,000 Breeders’ S. – the third and final leg of the Canadian Triple Crown.
