Shackleford racked up two more maiden special weight winners on June 5, bringing his total number of winners up to 29 and progeny earnings past the $1.7 million mark this year.

Both figures place his third on the 2017 Second-Crop Sire list. The Darby Dan stallion will be represented in Saturday's $1.5 million Belmont S. by the Meantime, who was second in the May 13 Peter Pan S. (G2).

Run for James turned in an excellent performance in his second lifetime start, coming home a 5 1/4-length winner in a 1 mile and 70 yard contest for 3-year-olds, earning a very strong Beyer Speed Figure of 81. The Alien Farm LLC homebred is out of the stakes-placed Pascal's Paradox, who is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Nistle's Crunch.

Later that day, Lady Shackleford broke her maiden by an almost identical margin going a mile at Mountaineer Park. The chestnut 3-year-old is owned by T G Group and was bred by Extern Developments Ltd. She is out of Awesome Surprise, a full sister to Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) winner Wilko.
