Oatsee, an integral part of the Darby Dan broodmare band, was named the 2011 broodmare of the year by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association and Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders’ Inc. at a luncheon on April 25 at Keeneland Race Course.

Fifteen-year-old Oatsee is the dam of Shackleford, winner of the 2011 Preakness S. who will begin his stud career at Darby Dan in 2013. Shackleford is the second Grade 1 winner produced by Oatsee; he was proceeded by Lady Joanne, winner of the 2007 Alabama S. (G1).

In addition to that pair of runners, Oatsee has also produced multiple Grade 3 winner Baghdaria, and the stakes placed runners Afleeting Lady and Stephanoatsee.

By Unbridled out of the Lear Fan mare With Every Wish, Oatsee produced an Indian Charlie filly on March 11.
