Grandpa's Dream prevailed by a head in a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight race Saturday at Oaklawn Park despite being pressed the entire trip by a trio of contenders (VIDEO).

The 3-year-old is the colt is the 17th winner of the year for leading Second-Crop Sire Shackleford, whose undefeated colt Malagacy captured the $900,000 Rebel S. (G2) March 18 at Oaklawn.

Grandpa's Dream, trained by Chris Hartman for Wayne Scherr, was bred in Kentucky by Mike Lauffer. The winner is the first foal out of Haylie Brae, who is a half-sister to Dwyer S. (G3) winner Speightster and two other stakes winners. Haylie Brae foaled a full sister to Grandpa's Dream in 2016.
