Malagacy romps again at Gulfstream

Shackleford's Malagacy, a TDN Rising Star after his 15-length domination in a Jan. 4 maiden at Gulfstream Park, turned in another jaw-dropping performance in his second start on Sunday, rolling home a seven-length winner in a 6 1/2-furlong 3-year-old allowance contest.

With the speedy Wait going to the lead, Malagacy sat behind the pacesetter for more than a half-mile. When Javier Castellano gave Malagacy his cue at the top of the stretch, the chestnut colt rocketed away from the field and coasted under the wire in 1:16.55 for the 6 1/2-furlongs.

Trained by Todd Pletcher for Sumaya U. S. Stable, Malagacy was a $190,000 purchase at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Spring Sale of 2-year-olds, where he was purchased by Steve Young on behalf of his owner.

Malagacy's dam Classiest Gem has a 2015 Shackleford filly and is a half-sister to Canadian champion Impossible Time.

Shackleford's eight winners in 2017 has him tied for the top spot on the Second-Crop Sire list.
