Gunnevera goes from last to first in $1 million Delta Jackpot (G3)

Gunnevera's thrilling stretch run in the $1 million Delta Jackpot (G3) gave the 2-year-old Dialed In colt his second graded stakes victory and also pushed his sire to the top of the 2016 First-Crop Sire list.

Gunnevera, who won the Saratoga Special (G2) this summer, is one of Dialed In's 16 winners this year. His progeny have banked more than $1.3 million to date.

Seemingly in no hurry out of the gate, Javier Castellano let Gunnevera settle into stride the first time past the wire. Well off the rail for the entire trip, Gunnevera was still last after a half-mile that went in in :47.05. Soon after that, he began to quicken noticeably and was passing horses with every stride on the turn.

The chestnut colt struck the front at the top of the lane and was full of run in the stretch, winning by 5 ¾ lengths in 1:45.15 for the 1 1/16-miles.

Owned by Peacock Racing Stables LLC, Gunnevera is now 3-1-0 in six starts and has earned $771,000. He was bred in Kentucky by Brandywine Farm and Stephen Upchurch.

"We will probably run in Florida and likely point to the Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II) along the way," Peacock Racing's Jaime Diaz said.
"We are a new barn but we are having a good time taking it race by race," he added about the ownership group, which includes Solomon Del-Valle and Guillermo Guerra.
Pedigree Notes from the TDN

Bred on the same A. P. Indy/Unbridled cross responsible for leading sire Tapit, Gunnevera is the last listed produce for his dam, a daughter of MSP Suite, who is the second dam of Sovereign Award-winning 2-year-old filly Van Lear Rose (Stroll), a paternal granddaughter of A. P. Indy.
