Perfect Soul's 3-year-old colt Golden Soul will join 19 others in the gate Saturday for the 139th Kentucky Derby (G1) at Churchill Downs. Golden Soul, owned and bred by long-time Darby Dan client Charles Fipke, will break from post 4 for trainer Dallas Stewart and jockey Robby Albarado.

“I think it’s a fair draw. Robby (Albarado) will take care of everything,” said Stewart. “We’re confident we got him aboard, and we’ll be ready to roll on Saturday. Glad to have him. … The one hole might have compromised us, because of the rail or whatever, but hey, it is what it is. We’re happy. Hopefully, we’ll get the horse over there good and healthy and have a good day Saturday.’’

Golden Soul made his racing debut last November at Churchill Downs, finishing a fast-closing second going a mile. After an easy maiden Dec. 30 at Fair Grounds, the chestnut colt finished second to Derby entrant Oxbow in the Grade 3 Lecomte S. He continued on the Derby trail in Louisiana, with close-up finishes in both the Risen Star S. (G2) and Louisiana Derby (G2).

Golden Soul, who has won $117,400 in his five starts, is out of the Mr. Prospector mare Hollywood Gold. She is the dam of Keeneland's Lexington S. (G2) winner Quintons Gold Rush.
