Darby Dan Farm freshman sire Tale of Ekati got off to a fast start when his initial runner Princesa Gold broke her maiden at Hipodromo de las Americas in Mexico March 28.

The winner took the 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight contest by about six lengths. Out of the Malabar Gold mare Gizzy, Princesa Gold was bred in Kentucky by H. Allen Poindexter.

Retired from racing after a career that saw him win the 2008 Wood Memorial (G1) and the Cigar Mile H. (G1) that same year, Tale of Ekati stands at Darby Dan in 2014 for $15,000 LFS&N.
