Darby Dan Farm’s Klimt, a Grade 1-winning juvenile by Quality Road, sired his first reported foal on Saturday, Jan. 5 at Britt Wadsworth’s Mahoney Eden Manor in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Bred by Randy Brandon, the colt is produced from the winning Medaglia d’Oro mare D’Orsay, who is out of the Roar mare Forty Marchanta (ARG), a multiple Group One winner and Champion 3-Year-Old Filly in Argentina.

Klimt was one of America’s best 2-year-olds of 2016. Named a TDN Rising Star, he captured the Best Pal Stakes (G2) by 2 ¾ lengths in just his third career start, before rolling to a dominant 4 ¼-length victory in the Del Mar Futurity (G1), where he ran seven furlongs in 1:21.80, marking the second-fastest Del Mar Futurity in over a dozen years.

“The future is bright for Klimt,” said Ryan Norton, stallion director at Darby Dan. “He was an accomplished racehorse, he possesses a stallion’s pedigree and has a great physical to match. He bred a strong first book of mares, and his first foal looks the part.”

By Quality Road, Klimt is out of the stakes-placed Dixie Union mare Inventive and hails from the immediate family of Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Concern. He covered 222 mares in his initial book—the third most popular sire of 2018—and he stands his second season at stud for $10,000 S&N.
