Run Away and Hide's Grade 2 winner Alberts Hope was weighted at 118 pounds on The Jockey Club’s 2013 Experimental Free Handicap, released Jan. 29 by The Jockey Club.
The bay 2011 foal, from the second crop of Run Away and Hide, established his credentials with a victory in the Grade 2 Best Pal S. at Del Mar last summer, and has two of three starts, earning $139,200. Alberts Hope, who is working at Hollywood Park in anticipation of his 2014 debut, comes from the same family of multiple graded stakes winner Valid Expectations.
After finishing a leading Second-Crop sire of 2013, Run Away and Hide has gotten off to a good start this year as well, with the 3-year-old colt Walt running second in the $100,000 Smarty Jones S. Jan. 20 at Oaklawn Park to put himself on the Triple Crown trail.
The Free Handicap, published annually since 1935, is a weight-based assessment of the previous year’s leading 2-year-olds.
