Reckling, a talented juvenile colt from the first crop of leading freshman sire Dialed In, started off the Travers card in style Saturday at Saratoga, winning a loaded $93,000 Maiden Special Weight race by 1 ¼ lengths as the 5-2 favorite.

Trained by new Hall of Fame conditioner Steve Asmussen, Reckling broke quickly and put himself on the lead in the six-furlong heat. Turning for home, he shook off challenges by several high-priced and well-connected two-year-olds before scooting clear to an impressive victory, stopping the clock in 1:10.37 over a fast local dirt track (VIDEO).

A $70,000 short yearling purchase by Heiligbrodt Racing, Reckling looked well worth that price tag on Saturday, and hinted that Graded stakes company was likely in the near future. He was bred in Kentucky by Dixiana Farms from the Distorted Humor mare Cash Reserve.

Reckling became the sixth winner for Dialed In, who remains atop the First-Crop Sire’s List at No. 1 in North America through Saturday.
