Bearpath, consigned and sold by Darby Dan, won the 1 1/2-mile, $150,000 Pan American S. (G3) over the Gulfstream Park lawn on Mar. 27 for his first stakes victory. The 4-year-old gelding by Dynaformer has won four of his last seven starts.
In the Pan American, Bearpath was never further back than second, tracking pacesetter Brother Nick for most of the race before taking over in mid-stretch, going on to win by three-quarters of a length over favorite Never on Sunday. Trainer Ian Wilkes is pointing Bearpath to another turf stakes marathon, the Elkhorn (G2) at Keeneland on Apr. 23, for his next start.
Darby Dan consigned, as agent for breeder Whisper Hill Farm, Bearpath to the 2007 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, where he sold for $170,000. Bred in Kentucky and out of the unraced Unbridled’s Song mare Song ‘n Silk, Bearpath has now earned $184,630.
