It's been more than 8 months since the retirement of one of racing's most beautiful and exciting race mares, Winter Memories. Since then, I've tried to find time to write an in-depth blog about her that includes the history of Darby Dan Farm and Phillips Racing Partnership...
Another impressive 2YO winner for Perfect Soul

Champion Perfect Soul sired another flashy 2-year-old winner from his second crop on Oct. 29th when his daughter Fire Into Ice surged up the rail to take command in the stretch and win a $75,900 maiden special weight race at Woodbine.

The chestnut filly ran a mile and 70 yards in 1:44.84 over the local Polytrack, fending off all challenges to win gamely by a neck. Fire Into Ice had raced once previously, rallying from last to make up more than 15 lengths in the stretch and finish second on the turf. In that debut she flashed good ability and a solid turn of foot, and with the experience gained from that race Fire Into Ice did not remain a maiden beyond Thursday’s race.

Trained by Roger Attfield, the filly moved her earnings to $49,356 for her owner and breeder Chuck Fipke, who also campaigned the filly’s sire Perfect Soul under the care of Attfield. Fire Into Ice is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Internallyflawless, who captured the Del Mar Oaks (G1) earlier this summer for Mr. Fipke.

Both classy fillies hail from the Seeking the Gold mare Tapatina and were bred in Kentucky.
