Grade 1 winner Tale of Ekati had the top-priced juvenile for a freshman sire at the April 7 Keeneland sale of 2-year-olds in training sale. The Darby Dan stallion also tied for top spot for all freshman sires with a sales average of $257,500.

The $400,000 colt, consigned as hip No. 59 by Wavertree Stables, Inc., went to Six Friends Syndicate. The striking bay is out of the Unbridled mare Verve, who is a half-sister to Grade 1 Selene S. winner Zoftig, the dam of Grade 1 Mother Goose S. winner Zo Impressive and Grade 1 Acorn S. winner Zaftig.

Tale of Ekati's first crop has been very well-received at the 2-year-old auctions this season, with an overall average of $210,000, which is 14 times his stud fee of $15,000.
